Gretchen is a graduate of Russell Sage College in Troy, New York. She majored in Nursing and went into the Army Nurse Corps after graduating. After completing a tour of duty at Walter Reed Medical Center in Washington, DC she relocated to San Francisco to join her husband, Alan, who was in the Navy. They stayed in California raising their two sons until 1989 with Gretchen winning awards year after year in Residential Real Sales. In 1989, they relocated to Boulder, Colorado,in 1992 were transferred back to the Bay area,and in 1996 off to Portland, Oregon and ultimately back to San Diego in 1999. Gretchen feels her own relocation experiences have helped her in counseling her clients who have to uproot and make career and home changes themselves.

Having been a licensed REALTOR for more than 25 years, Gretchen has a solid background in Real Estate. She and Alan own several properties too, because they believe in the value of home ownership as an investment.

Alan has an extensive educational and work background that enables him to help clients define their goals and needs and develop the strategies to accomplish these. He is a graduate of St Lawrence University in Canton, New York (B.S. Mathematics), Rensselear Polytechnic Institute (M.S. Mathematics) and a PhD candidate (Economics) at UCSD. Alan continues to take course-work relating to real estate and has specialized in real estate investment analysis. He is able to council clients concerning whether a property has a reasonable return on investment and therefore an alternative to equities.

Alan was originally licensed as a real estate agent in 1977. At that time he was a Navy Lieutenant stationed at Miramar. He assisted his wife Gretchen and together they sold in Rancho Penasquitos and became known as the” Penasquitos Pros.” From there they branched into Poway, Rancho Bernardo and other North County communities. Alan stayed in the Navy Reserves and eventually retired as a Navy Captain. He enjoys working with military families relating to their special needs and concerns.

Alan has had a 27-year career in high-tech industry. Working for Sunward Technology (co-founder), Conner Peripherals, Seagate Technologies, Fujitsu Computer Products of America and Sony Electronics, Alan has held numerous executive level positions and managed world-wide organizations. Throughout his career he has managed Operations, Quality, Sales and Marketing. This background has provided him with a keen understanding of how to build a viable business, including our real-estate business.

He earned his Brokers License in November 2007 and is actively involved in the daily operations of marketing listings, negotiating contracts, coordinating contractors on repair issues and assisting buyers with the best values in the market. Alan is active in the community and has made a commitment to Casa de Amparo, a non profit organization that provides emergency shelter and counseling for abused children. He is an executive board member, and Vice Chair for Casa de Amparo.

As a retired real estate appraiser, I know a great Realtor when I see one. But having only lived in San Diego since retiring, I realized when I decided to sell my home that I didn’t personally know any great San Diego Realtors. What to do? Naturally, I did my research and scheduled interviews with a handful of Realtors whom I had determined were San Diego’s ‘cream of the crop’.
